Lost shoes, fly away hats, getting caught in the rain without an umbrella — I can totally relate to the sweetly illustrated protagonist in Carey Sookocheff’s Solutions for Cold Feet and Other Little Problems. Everything seems to go just a little bit awry for her, due in part, to her mischievous pup. And what do you do about all the every day, little problems? You find solutions!
Sometimes that solution is sporting mismatched shoes and begrudgingly jumping in a puddle when it starts to rain.
But this book isn’t simply about making the best of it; just below the surface, Sookocheff shows us that with the right perspective, friendship can turn a rough (ruff? Sorry…mom joke.) day into an adventure, and your problems can actually become solutions. The resilient friendship between a girl and her dog is the real heart of this picture book, I think.
The cooler weather is just starting to come our way here in Tennessee, and this was the perfect fall read. We enjoyed cuddling up in our coziest socks, and coming up with some of our own solutions as we read.
Solutions for Cold Feet and Other Little Problems is out on October 11th from Tundra Books.
